What is Microsoft Surface™?

Microsoft Surface turns an ordinary tabletop into a vibrant, interactive surface. It's the first commercially-available surface computing platform from Microsoft. The product provides effortless access to digital content through natural gestures, touch and physical objects. Today, it's a 30-inch diagonal display in a table-like form factor that's easy for individuals or multiple people to interact with in a way that feels familiar, just like in the real world. In essence, it's a surface come to life for exploring, learning, sharing, creating, buying and much more. Today Microsoft Surface is available in the retail, hospitality, automotive, banking and healthcare industries. Consumers can interact with Surface at select AT&T retail locations, at the iBar located in the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and at select Sheratons in the U.S.

What is surface computing?

Led by Microsoft, surface computing is a major advancement that moves beyond the traditional user interface to a more natural way of interacting with information. It features four key attributes:

• Direct Interaction: Users can actually "grab" digital information with their hands - interacting with content by touch and gesture, without the use of a mouse or keyboard.
• Multi–Touch: Surface computing recognizes many points of contact simultaneously, not just from one finger like with a typical touch–screen, but up to dozens of items at once.
• Multi–User: The horizontal form factor makes it easy for several people to gather around Microsoft Surface together, providing a collaborative, face–to–face computing experience.
• Object Recognition: Users can place physical objects on the display to trigger different types of digital responses; in the future, this will include the ability to transfer digital content.

Offline Gmail with Google Gears

Gmail Lab has introduced its latest great feature called Offline Gmail. Offline Gmail enable e-mail access even when you are not connected to the Internet. Well offline Gmail is actual implementation of Google Gears to make Gmail accessible in offline mode.

Once you have enable Offline Gmail, a local cache of your email will be stored in your computer using Google Gears. This local cache will be synchronizes with Gmail server whenever you are connected to network. You can star,label your email or send, reply emails. All the send email will be stored in your outbox and will automatically sent as soon as Gmail detects connections.

Currently, Google lists Firefox 2, Firefox 3 and Internet Explorer 7 in their list of support browser. Another feature of Offline Gmail is 'flasky connection mode'. It uses the local cache as if you were disconnected but still synchronizes your mail with the server in the background.

How to enable Offline Gmail:

1. Login to your Gmail account

2. Click 'Settings'and click the 'Labs' tab.

3. Select 'Enable' next to 'Offline Gmail'.

4. Click 'Save Changes' at the bottom.

5. After your browser reloads, you’ll see a new “Offline0.1″ link in the upper righthand corner of your account, next to your username. Click this link to start the offline set up process and download Gears if you don’t already have it.

Note:
Offline Gmail available to everyone who uses Gmail in US or UK English over the next couple of days.

Not Born Genius But Its Hardwork that Paid

A Proud Pakistani Student Ali Nawaz-ish has passed 23 A levels in subjects including pure mathematics, travel and tourism, and sociology.

He got 21 A grades and a B and a C.

The 18-year-old, who is now studying Computer Science at Cambridge University, said that he used to be a 'below average' student.

iDesktop.TV has been around for quite a while now (it was previously called YouTube Desktop), and last time we covered it, it was mainly a YouTube aggregator which added some interesting options to YouTube; video downloading and conversion to video formats other than .flv, as well as better organization and search filtering of your online video collection.

The videos themselves were skinned with a theme different than the standard, plain YouTube videos; now, iDesktop.TV has decided to expand this option and turn it into one of the most important features on the site: creating a customized, branded video player with several advanced features.

BOEING 797

Look at this new aircraft....

Boeing is preparing a 1000 passenger jet that could reshape the Air travel industry for the next 100 years. The radical Blended Wing design has been developed by Boeing in cooperation with the NASA Langley Research Center. The mammoth plane will have a wing span of 265 feet compared to the 747's 211 feet, and is designed to fit within the newly created terminals used for the 555 seat Airbu A380, which is 262 feet wide.

The new 797 is in direct response to the Airbus A380 which has racked up 159 orders already. Boeing decided to kill its 747X stretched super jumbo in 2003 after little interest was shown by airline companies, but has continued to develop the ultimate Airbus crusher 797 for years at its Phantom Works research facility in Lon Beach, Calif.

The Airbus A380 has been in the works since 1999 and has accumulated $13 billion in development costs, which gives Boeing a huge advantage now that Airbus has committed to the older style tubular aircraft for decades to come.

There are several big advantages to the blended wing design, the most important being the lift to drag ratio which is expected to increase by an amazing 50%, with overall weight reduced by 25%, making it an estimated 33% more efficient than the A380, and making Airbus's $13 billion dollar investment look pretty shaky.

High body rigidity is another key factor in blended wing aircraft, It reduces turbulence and creates less stress on the air frame which adds to efficiency, giving the 797 a tremendous 8800 nautical mile range with its 1000 passengers flying comfortably at mach 0.88 or 654 mph cruising speed, another advantage over the Airbus tube-and-wing designed A380's 570 mph.

The exact date for introduction is unclear, yet the battle lines are clearly drawn in the high-stakes war for future civilian air supremacy
